Interfaith Solidarity
HRH has launched a number of initiatives to encourage dialogue between religious faiths and build a tolerant and pluralistic Arab society – as was envisioned by his great-grandfather Sharif Hussein before the outbreak of the First World War and the signing of the Sykes Picot agreement.
HRH firmly believes that it is important to engage in dialogue with people from different faiths, and to treat our sacred spaces, not as venues for division, but as places for dialogue and constructive exchange.
In this spirit, HRH has hosted ongoing consultations with the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue at the Vatican, the Interfaith Foundation in the United Kingdom and the Orthodox Centre of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Chambésy, Geneva.
At a meeting with his Holiness Pope Francis in September 2014, HRH presented a ‘Template of Hope’ to his Holiness.
Among other considerations, the template of hope asked that as the nations of the world come together to finalize the post-2015 development agenda, the moral lobby of faith that is still strong across the world must act in cohesion to ensure that human dignity is at the forefront of all development efforts.
